Description

Learn all about the inspiring stories of Nikki Bradley and Benjamin Pritchard. Both Nikki and Ben have overcome significant challenges in life to accomplish some remarkable feats.

Benjamin Pritchard

Growing up in the Mumbles (Swansea, Wales), sport played a huge part in Ben's upbringing, which started by represented Wales at the young age of 10 in Sailing.

Whilst at Bangor University, Benjamin gained full athletic colours in three sports; Hockey, Cycling and Triathlon, and it was here where Benjamin made his first foray into the Senior International stage, managing to juggle his Law College course, whilst also representing Great Britain at the Triathlon European and World Age Group Championships.

However, at just 24 years of age, Benjamin's life changed in a split second. He sustained a spinal cord injury and was paralysed from the rib cage down. He went from spending most of his spare time riding around on two wheels to permanently having to use four.

This summer (2021), Benjamin represented Great Britain at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, having placed 2nd at the 2021 European Rowing Championships earlier that season.

Benjamin also holds 3 Indoor Rowing World Records and is currently ranked 5th in the International Rowing World Rankings for his boat class and was recently voted Athlete of the Year at the Disability Sport Wales Awards for his achievements in rowing and his community engagement and mentoring.

Benjamin is currently in training for Paris 2024!

Nikki Bradley

Nikki Bradley, a Donegal native, is an adapted adventurer and motivational speaker, ambassador and a fitness enthusiast with a special interest in adapted training.

Diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer (Ewing’s Sarcoma) at sixteen and the receiver of a second total right hip replacement at the age of twenty six, Nikki has been on a truly unique journey.

In 2013 Nikki set up a fitness based awareness campaign called Fighting Fit For Ewing’s where she regularly partakes in physical challenges to highlight the importance of exercise for rehabilitation. Her most recent challenges resulted in her becoming the first person to scale four Irish mountain peaks on crutches in 32 hours, and she completed a summer half marathon and a monumental visit to Tanzania, Africa where she volunteered with suicide prevention organisation ALPS.

Other challenges include travelling to Iceland in February 2016 to scale the Sólheimajökull glacier on crutches, attempting a Guinness World Record in Holland to become the fastest woman to complete a 5k on crutches and climbing the Sturrrall in Donegal (all while relying on crutches).

Nikki is currently working with specialists on the next phase of her medical journey where she will likely face major surgery in 2022.
