JumpSTART Tumbling Judging Course - 21st May 2025

New to judging? Never judged before but would like to get involved? Then the new JumpSTART judging courses are for you!

• JumpSTART competitions are fun participation-based competitions to judge. Gymnasts perform a variety of exciting gymnastics skills specific to the JumpSTART development plan, which includes 4 different disciplines – Acrobatics, Rhythmic, Trampoline and Tumbling.  
• There is a seperate JumpSTART judging course for each of the four disciplines. Each JumpSTART discipline judging course will qualify you to judge at any national JumpSTART competition in that discipline.
• The courses are a combination of theory (online) and practical (live judging at the event, with support from more experienced judges). There is no written exam.
• Once you are deemed competent after judging at your first JumpSTART event, we will sign your attendance log sheet and issue you with your certificate.
• Each discipline welcomes candidates from any discipline who want to learn and understand basic judging in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Who is it aimed at:

• This is the ideal starting point to set you on the pathway to becoming a great judge
• Candidates who are completely new to judging and want to judge at JumpSTART competitions on behalf of their club.
• Candidates who currently have a judging qualification (at any level) from a different discipline e.g. An acrobatics judge who wants to judge at the JumpSTART rhythmic event

Criteria for Eligibility:

• Candidates booking on this course must be 15 years old and current members of Gymnastics Ireland
• Candidates aged 16 and above must have completed Garda Vetting and Safeguard Training
• Any parent(s)/guardian(s) of a candidate under the age of 18 must complete the online consent form when creating an account on LearnUpon.

Course Syllabus:

• 2-3 hours(depending on the discipline) online session learning the basics of judging and how to sit and judge technique on a fun panel
• Each course will focus on the new JumpSTART routines, how the elements should be performed and how to recognise what gymnasts are not executing correctly
• The online session will be interactive so you can ask and receive as much information as you need
• The is no formal exam or assessment

Qualification:

To achieve your qualification and certification you must complete the following:

• Attend the full duration of the online zoom theory session
• Attend the full duration of an upcoming JumpSTART event in your discipline and judge under the support and supervision of the Head of Judging.
• Upon completion of the event, you will present your JumpSTART Judging Log Sheet to the appropriate Head of Judging for sign off.
• You must upload a copy of the Judging Log Sheet through this LMS platform as part of the course completion and certification process. (Further details will be provided on this process).  

Course Venue:

• The theory part of the course will be delivered online through zoom. Access to the zoom link will be through this platform. It is advised to use a desk or laptop device with good internet access.
• The practical part of the course is live judging experience at an upcoming JumpSTART event in your discipline.
